Reverse Your Pick Route to Save Effort and Improve Speed

Most wholesalers set up their pick routes to start with the top sellers — thinking it saves time. But here’s the reality: your pickers are walking the route no matter what. The question is: Are they walking smart?

Try flipping the pick route. Start at the slowest-moving locations first—the ones where they’re grabbing just one or two items. Then work back toward the high-volume (and heavier!) products.

Why should a picker load up 100kg of stock at the start and then walk across the entire warehouse just to pick up a 500g item—only to haul all that weight all the way back?

🚀 A better way:
Walk the longest distance with an empty trolley.
Pick up small, low-volume items first.
Finish at the high-volume SKUs—where the walk back is shortest.

It’s a simple fix that reduces wasted effort, improves speeds, and makes picking more efficient. Yet, so many wholesalers still get it wrong. Make the switch—and let your team move smarter, not harder.
