A Simple Exercise to Set Employee KPIs Today

If you want to start creating dashboards to track business and employee performance, you need to decide on the measurable performance indicators you’ll be using. Here’s a quick exercise to get started:

Make a list of every employee in your business.
Write down two measurable data points for each one—metrics that directly reflect their performance.

For example:

  • Warehouse pickers: Number of items picked, total pick lines completed
  • Sales reps: New accounts opened, total number of customers ordering
  • Customer service: Average ticket response time, satisfaction scores

Multiple employees can share the same KPIs, but everyone should have at least two measurable stats that track their contribution to the business.

This is the first step toward building effective dashboards, ensuring alignment with your business goals, driving accountability, and making data-driven decisions.
