Train Them How You Want Them to Think

It’s easy to train someone how to complete a task. But if you want a high-performing team, you need to go further. You need to train them how to think.
In a busy wholesale business, managers are constantly interrupted with small decisions:
“Should I hold this order?”
“What should I do if this SKU is out of stock?”
“Do I mark this as ready or wait for the last item?”
If your team is waiting for approval on every minor decision, progress stalls—and you become the bottleneck.
Here’s the shift:
✔ Stop just saying what to do—explain why
✔ Share the bigger picture so they understand what matters most
✔ Give them scenarios to build confidence in decision-making
✔ Allow safe mistakes—then talk through what they’d do next time
When your team understands your priorities, customer expectations, and the reasons behind the process, they’ll start to think for themselves. That’s when they stop being task-doers and become problem-solvers.
📌 If you want fewer questions and better decisions, stop training just the task—train the mindset.
